Published in Paperback by Resource Publications (June, 2000)
Author: Paul Turner
Average review score:

Super!
I am on an RCIA team and am learning about the RCIA as I go along. This answered so many questions that no one else has been able to answer for me. I didn't get answers like this from my pastor or from my DRE or from the Beginnings and Beyond (religious formation by osmosis) weekend.

Great book.

Cheatin' Heart: Women's Secret Stories
Published in Paperback by Serpent's Tail (January, 1999)
Authors: Kim Longinotto, Joanna Rosenthall, Janette Turner Hospital, and Erica Wagner
Average review score:

Not One dud in all of these short stories.
This is a really fantastic collection of short stories, and balanced too. Some are dark, some funny, some touching and others gripping. Rose Tremain's is a masterpiece of writing, so is Janette Turner Hospital's. One by Pat Cadigan is verging on sci fi, but is also a psychological thriller. This book is a millenium must. Do read it!

China Bound: A Guide to Academic Life and Work in the Prc
Published in Paperback by National Academy Press (January, 1994)
Authors: Anne F. Thurston, Karen Turner-Gottschang, and Linda A. Reed
Average review score:

A very knowledgable author
I actually have not read the book. However, from viewing the 1st part of Anne Thurston's series on C-SPAN, I found her to be very objective and knowledgable about China. She has traveled to many parts of the China and has got first hand experience with the real people in China. Although this book may be a little dated considering the rapid changes happening in China, I am sure you would benefit from having this book if you have never been to China before.

Cinema of Adventure, Romance and Terror
Published in Hardcover by American Society of Cinematography (1998)
Author: George E. Turner
Average review score:

Top notch! You owe it to yourself to own it!
It is quite rare to find between the covers of a film book a combination so exact between an interesting and well developed theme and graphic elements of very high caliber. This happens with "The Cinema of Adventure, Romance & Terror", a publication of the American Society of Cinematographers. This is not casual. The book was edited by the late George E.Turner, a staff member of ASC, a Hollywood professional, a special effects artist, animator, journalist, historian and professor. The book also has the valuable contributions of other experts such as Rudy Behlmer, Scott MacQeen, Paul Mandell, George J. Mitchell and Michael H. Price, most of them movie professionals, writers or illustrators. The book captures its reader with the wealth of data it gives on 24 films, and thoroughly covers the interests of any film fan or student. Each film is minutely narrated with information of how it came into being, how it was shot and includes details of the complexities faced. A complete technical file accompanies each film. The reader step by step will be thrust into the magic world of film production whose era is long gone. A vivid and nimble prose together with amazing images will awe the reader. The best techniques in restoring old photographs has been wisely combined with the wit of excellent diagraming and top notch printing. Many of those pictures (336 illustrations) never looked it its era as perfect in their grey values as they do now, and can be admired in this book that casts such a magical spell. Unforgetable Hollywood filmic landmarks such as "The Hunchback of Notre Dame","Dracula","Frankestein","Tarzan","Flash Gordon","Rope","Laura","The Night of the Hunter",etc.,reveal their secrets, detail their creation, and show the splendid results obtained. It is a must to own such a book. Don't wait till it is out of print. You owe it to yourself to own a copy and enjoy again and again the legacy those masters left for our awe.

The City of Exile
Published in Paperback by Ace Books (August, 1997)
Author: Deborah Turner Harris
Average review score:

Adventure and mystery and a real page-turner
City of Exile is a fine fantasy novel and a fitting conclusion to the Caledon trilogy. At last we see more of the Feyan and get a bit of insight into their well-drawn and quite alien culture. The juxtaposition of the highly-mannered Feyan, the rough but noble Caledons and the insufferable Berings makes for added depth in a novel that is full of swashbuckling adventure, high court intrigue and dealing with demons. Turner Harris also provides enough moral grey areas to keep things interesting for the intelligent reader in this quite superior novel. One of her best to date - can't wait for more!

I would have given this book a 10, but I'm saving that for her next book - this author gets better and better.

"Risky Business"
"Clash of the Titans," by entertaining writer Richard Hack is a very impressive read. A lot of reasearch went into the creation of this 'Must Read' 544 page book. Hack gives the reader a look inside the media world of business as well a look inside the personal and professional lives of Ted Turner and Keith Rupert Murdoch. Risk taking, careful planning, and gutsy determination is what it takes to become like these two media moguls...men of position, power, and fame.
